Introduction

Welcome to the NPA's Legislation information page. Since 1881, the Nebraska Pharmacists Association has supported the profession of pharmacy and has been committed to the advancement of pharmacy on all levels (local, state, and national). The NPA speaks with a strong voice on behalf of Nebraska pharmacy before state and federal agencies, the Nebraska Legislature, and Congress, and retains legal and lobbying counsel for the professions benefit. The NPA also fosters a close working relationship with the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. The NPA further provides a full-time staff that works hard to meet the increasing demands placed on your chosen profession.

Advocating on your behalf, the NPA has worked on the following government issues that directly affect the profession of pharmacy:

  • provided information on issues such as HIPAA, third-parties, patient safety, bioterrorism education, Medicaid, and Compounding (USP795/797), and Medicare to pharmacists, consumers, and policy makers.

  • continued efforts to educate employers and policy makers about third-party issues, mail order and its impact on community pharmacy in Nebraska.

  • collaborated with the Nebraska Medical Association and the Nebraska Hospital Association to pass patient safety legislation.

  • collaborated with national pharmacy organizations (NCPA, ASHP, NACDS, APhA, ASCP, and NASPA) to promote the value of pharmacists

  • discussed pharmacy issues with Nebraska's Congressional Delegation, Nebraska State Senators, the Governor and the Attorney General.
